Counseling for First Responders, Military Members & Healthcare Professionals in Meridian, Idaho
Support for Those Who Spend Their Lives Supporting Others
Serving others often requires strength, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure. However, the experiences that come with these professions can also create emotional challenges that are difficult to carry alone.
As a former EMT and emergency room staff member, I understand the culture of service, the pressure to remain composed during crisis, and the emotional weight that can come with caring for others during some of their most difficult moments.
First responders, military members, and healthcare professionals may experience repeated exposure to trauma, crisis situations, suffering, loss, and high expectations. Over time, these experiences can impact stress levels, relationships, emotional well-being, and the ability to feel present outside of work.
At Willow and Stone Counseling, I provide a supportive space where you can process your experiences, develop healthy coping strategies, and address the challenges that come with high-stress professions. You do not have to minimize what you have carried or explain why these experiences have impacted you.
Understanding the Challenges of High-Stress Professions
The demands of these professions can shape the way we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. While these roles often develop incredible strengths, they can also come with challenges such as:
Exposure to traumatic events and human suffering
Occupational trauma and PTSD symptoms
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
Compassion fatigue
Difficulty transitioning between work and home life
Feeling responsible for everyone else while neglecting your own needs
Feeling emotionally disconnected or struggling to be fully present with loved ones
Relationship challenges related to stress, communication, or emotional availability
Feeling misunderstood by people who have not shared similar experiences
Difficulty processing experiences that continue to impact daily life
You may be someone others turn to during moments of crisis. Therapy can provide a space where your experiences are understood, your strengths are honored, and you have the opportunity to focus on your own healing and well-being.

My Approach to Supporting First Responders, Military Members & Healthcare Professionals
My passion for supporting helping professionals comes from my own background as a former EMT and emergency room staff member. I understand the culture of service, the pressure to remain composed during difficult situations, and the impact that repeated exposure to crisis can have over time.
Many first responders, military members, and healthcare professionals hesitate to seek therapy because they worry they will not be understood. My goal is to provide a space where you do not have to explain the weight of your experiences or minimize what you have carried.
I approach therapy with respect for the strength, resilience, and dedication that have helped you succeed while also creating space to process the experiences that may still be affecting you. Together, we can work through trauma, stress, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, and the challenges that come with carrying responsibility for others.
Therapy is not about changing who you are—it is about supporting your well-being, strengthening your relationships, and helping you continue forward with greater balance, connection, and resilience.
I integrate a variety of evidence-based approaches into treatment and tailor therapy to each person's experiences, needs, and goals. Healing looks different for everyone, and together we will determine the approaches that best support your growth, recovery, and overall well-being.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) - Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based approach that helps reduce the emotional distress connected to difficult memories and traumatic experiences. For those who have experienced repeated exposure to crisis, suffering, or traumatic events, ART can help process these experiences in a way that reduces their intensity and impact, allowing you to move forward without feeling controlled by the past.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) - Internal Family Systems (IFS) recognizes that we all have different parts of ourselves that develop to protect us and help us navigate life. For professionals who are used to staying strong, managing crises, or putting others first, IFS can help explore the parts of yourself that may carry stress, responsibility, fear, or emotional pain with greater understanding and compassion.
Relationship and Gottman Method Couples Therapy - High-stress professions can place unique demands on relationships. The experiences you carry home from work, the pressure of demanding schedules, and the emotional weight of caring for others can impact communication, connection, and family relationships.
Using relationship-focused approaches, including the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, I help couples strengthen communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and better understand how stress and life experiences impact their relationship. Therapy can provide a space to reconnect, strengthen your partnership, and build a healthier foundation together.
Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Trauma and chronic stress can impact the way we view ourselves, others, and the world around us. Trauma-informed CBT helps identify thoughts, beliefs, and coping patterns that may have developed after difficult experiences while building healthier ways to respond to stress, manage emotions, and move forward with greater confidence and resilience.
Strength-Based Therapy - Those who work in high-stress professions often develop incredible strengths through their experiences, including resilience, adaptability, compassion, courage, and the ability to navigate difficult situations under pressure. A strength-based approach recognizes and honors the qualities that have helped you succeed while exploring how those same strengths can support your healing.
Together, we will identify the skills, values, and resources you already possess and learn how to apply them in ways that support emotional well-being, relationships, and personal growth. Therapy is not about taking away the qualities that make you effective—it is about helping you use your strengths in a way that allows you to continue moving forward with greater balance and connection.
Person-Centered Therapy - Person-centered therapy creates a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can be fully heard and understood. I believe the therapeutic relationship is an important part of healing, and I strive to create a space where you can show up authentically while exploring your experiences at your own pace.
"Healing does not require you to leave behind the helper and protector you have always been. It means learning to turn the same strength, resilience, and commitment that have carried you through difficult moments toward your own healing."
